Superbird engine?

Back in the late 80's my older brother had a friend with a burgandy superbird. This guy pulled the 440 out of the car and put a ton of money in the motor. While he was building the 440, he put a 426 wedge in so he could drive it. He promptly wrecked the car. He then purchased a white superbird that had some cancer as a parts car. He lost interest along the way and sold both cars to my brother and the 440 to me. A year or so later my brother hadn't done anything with the cars and sold them. About 3 months ago I started cleaning out the shop and came across the engine. This is the 440 he pulled out of the superbird. How do I confirm this is the original motor, and if so find the car it belongs to? I figured if anybody could help, it would be you guys.

should be VIN on the lower block pad....guys over at DC.com keep a pretty good list on wing car owners and VIN info

Any Wing Car fan should try and save this list somewhere. It will help when situations arise like this or just trying to sniff out a clone. He has another page that gives all the different colors and engine, trans combination production numbers. Its good stuff and he should get a pat on the back from all us Aero car guys for his research.

Those have to be the 'Birds in Salem over by the college? I remember hearing about them and going to look at them in the '80's when I was in college. It's been a long time ago, but if I remember right the burgandy 'Bird looked like it had hit a pole on the nose and pushed the engine back into the firewall. I think I still have a picture of it somewhere. There was also a a '71 or '72 GTX there.
