Guys, I've received a few requests to post how to build your own superstock k-member, which will allow anyone to run the large superstock pans or a dry sump. This mod also makes removing and installing engines much easier, and I perform this mod to all my k-members.
This one's going in a '63 Plymouth Belvedere wagon and it's a '69 k-member I'm using. As most of you know, I always change my early k-members to late model k-members. This one's also running a hemi when completed.
I'm gonna have to do this in 2-3 parts, since this site is so chincey on uploading pics (limit is 5 per posting ?!!!). At least the Abody forum allows 10, but here goes. I aplologize for a multiple listing for one mod.
You'll need some 1/8" metal plate; a tool capable of trimming metal from the k-member; a belt sander and hand-held rotary grinder with pads to dress down welds; a machine capable of welding 1/8" metal plate; can of primer; a couple cans of your finish paint ( I used POR - 15).
Here's a shot of the mods from the top of the k-member:
A shot from the bottom:
Here I've started boxing the unit in:
Lower Plate mods
Again, I apologize for breaking this up. With a 5 pic limit, this is probably the only tech article I'll do. If you want to see the rest, check out part 2.
