Hi there everyone,

I am switching out the intake manifold on the 1972 SSP with the 400 CID and can't seem to find the answer to this. We have removed the Edelbrock 4 bbl / manifold and we're going to replace with stock intake and rebuilt carb. Should we also change the valley pan/and valley pan gaskets? They look like they are in good shape. Also, what is the best for gaskets these days? Plans are to drive, not race. Are FelPro gaskets still the ones to buy?
Another thing is that the intake manifold bolts do not look original and are not matching. What is the best site for OEM replacement bolts?

If the old valley gasket is in good shape you can reuse it.
Fel-Pro is a good gasket as well as Mr. Gasket or Detroit gaskets. I honestly find little differance in manufacturer. It is more the end user.

Sorry I can't help with resto intake bolts. The only place I know would be Year One.

If you're using the "paper" gaskets on both sides of the valley pan, like used by lots of 6 Pack folks or silicon, there's no problem with re-using the valley pan. I'd re-use them many times when changing intakes on my race motors. You just need to use something as the sealer. This presumes it's in good shape.

change the valley pan.

Decided to do that when I found a corner where the valley pan was lifted off the block and slighlty bent. Ordered one yesterday. Thanks a bunch

Try Partsmix.com for the OEM bolts. They have factory correct fasteners for a good price.

I was wondering if washers are needed when installing the intake manifold bolts? Partsmix.com sells only the bolts. the bolts I took out, some were the stock bolts and others weren't, but there were washers on all of them. Several don't match the stock bolts.

Hmmm, good question. Mine were non OEM when I got my car as well. I have seen both but I am not sure what is factory correct. I would be keen to know myself, so if anybody knows please chip in.
