Looks like my painter is having issues getting a modern version of the T5 paint code here in California, in a PPG aquabase brand (I'm no expert)on an of this so just reaching out if anyone knows where to get the DVU or DVC toners that go with the PPG paint? not even sure I'm saying that right but he said the Omni brand paint is **** and he refuses to use it. I guess the PPG line with toners he used to use are now discontinued ? Would any one out of my state know of a place where we can still get this stuff?

Again i have no idea what the hell I'm talking about just trying to repeat what he told me lol

So, he's using waterborne basecoat, but can't get the toners in your state ? His paint supplier is the source, but is it a matter of legality ? Or, can he get the toners in solvent-based only ? Not sure what the issue is. (Paint manufacturers supply different grades of paint, like Omni, or Nason, etc., as well as their premier product)

Not sure I know he said he uses PPG aquabase but for some reason cant seem to match the toners / tints to get the T5 right not sure if its because his supplier just stop running PPG aquabase line? something about the toners they stopped supplying I think. Here is Cal we cant shoot the old school stuff it's a heavy fine. Not saying he wants to go that route but is looking for anyone who has a line on a supplier who still carries tints / toners that may have the right mix to make the T5? Not even sure I'm saying it right to be honest.

More info

Where we can get the T5 paint code mixed in either ppg aqua base, or in a ppg solvent base like DBC, or DBU base coat

Shoot me your number I'll put you in contact with my painter in reno

Yeah this new site i was looking at your profile name, clicked it and at the bottom was a text box lol woukd think it went right to yoy like a pm probably went to a photo comment lol

Well here is what he came up with, turns out PPG aquabase does have a formula based on the original T5 color but they took a digital image of a paint chip and scanned it and went through their system to make their formula. anyway its going to be kick *** and shiny that's all I can say. I tried to take a few pics with my phone in different lights and flash on/off so in some pics the color looks darker or lighter, gold then copper lol What do you guys think? is it good or should I have them try again?

FYI, Omni is a PPG brand, yes it is a lower cost and not the top shelf like the DBC , but there is nothing wrong with Omni when doing a complete as long as any repair or touch ups over the years are also done with Omni to get the correct match unless you have access to a mixing system. Omni stands up just fine if top coated with a top line clear like the deltron / ppg DCH 3000 or 4000.
Now I should add Omni has its own lessor grade base called {AU} and yes that stuff is crap, but the Omni {Plus} grade is fine
I just signed the ticket on a pint of PPG DBC this week for a 2015 Chrysler color called {red velvet}, not a tri coat. Just PPG DBC base our cost for one pint was $215.00 how many gal. of the good stuff you want ?
Its getting worse . LOL

I love the copper and flake, seems like a ton of flake but it will for sure catch the light.

My painter said he refuses to use Omni saying its crap, we did my engine bay in that I guess I didn't even know at the time my brother in law did the work. although the color is good the painter pointed out the way it lays in and what happens to it over time compared to the aquabase plus, I like the sample it is what I wanted it to come out like so it's a win for me..and after all I have been though I need a win on this one lol

I hear ya, go with what you want and like for sure, Yes you been through the war on the paint / resto on your car, All body men have their likes and dislikes , as long as your guy is happy you get a better job.

My 66 kk1 charger had he engine bay sprayed in Omni single stage and the rest of the car in ppg dbc basecoat clear coat. Engine bay is always in the shadows and don't get me wrong it looks good and way better than factory but it doesn't hold a candle to the rest of the car.

My guy not able to help you out ?
