Hi,
would someone around here recognise a faked fender tag? I am in contact with a guy that has a repro tag on his 69 RR. Since i know from the e-bodies that fakes are not unknown, i'd like to have it checked by a specialist.
Thanks
Knillse

I know 69 tags pretty well. I can probably help. If you know it is a remade tag, what are you trying to find out?

Make sure that all of the body numbers, radiator core support and trunk lip, match the vin.

basically i don't want to pay for a RR and get a Satellite. Maybe it's not a big issue in the price range i am in (25k), but i don't want to blame myself afterwards not have used every source. Maybe it's also not a big thing for B-Bodies, but at the e-side some basic VINs were updated to Cuda's/ R/T's.

You already know the fender tag is a reproduction. Is it a FAKE? Like the frog said, the only way to tell is by comparing it to a build sheet to check correctness of the codes.

The VIN on the tag should also match the dash, and stampings on the core support and trunk rail. Check these. ALL runners (up to the F bodies anyway) should start with an "RM" in the VIN. For 69's they would be
RM21 for a coupe
RM23 for a hardtop and
RM27 for a vert

The V.I.N. will tell you that. If it is truely a RR the first 4 of the V.I.N. will be RM21 (coupe) RM23 (hardtop) or RM23 (convert) anything else and it is not an RR.

Wish I'd said that
