Tail light bulbs

I have a “65 coronet 500” and I had a tail light bulb go out. I replaced it and decided to check the backup light bulb. There wasn’t one. Does anyone know if the backup light takes the same bulb as the tail light bulb, which is a 1157. Thanks

No should be a single filament bulb. Possibly a 1156? Look in the socket. Should be a single contact. The tail /stoplight sockets have double contacts.

It looks like a 1073 and a 1156 are the same except a 1073 is rated 23 W and a 1156 27 W

Correct.

Easy way to tell is, single-filament bulbs have one "tit" on the bottom; dual-filaments have two. Those are the hot leads; the barrel of the base is the ground. You can also tell by looking inside the bulb socket on the vehicle - one contact, single filament; two contacts, dual.

my roadrunner had a yellow burn on the inside of the lens of the reverse lamp , I would use the 1073 , less heat during prolonged use

I believe 1141 is a smaller physical size. I went through this with my '70 500 recently, and swapped a bunch of stuff over to LED (interior courtesy lights, backup lights, side markers, gauges). The base is the same, but the 1141 is shorter. Thats a good catch - the 1156 would hit the inside of the lens. Ran into that on my interior console lights, 56s were too tall and I ended up having to buy new lenses in addition to getting the correct 1141s.

1141 is the same size, but only 18 W. It looks like all three bulbs are the same, except for the wattage. So it depends how bright you want the back up lamps to be. Of course anything brighter (hotter) could be a problem
