So on my 72 Charger I need to replace most of my tail light sockets as they are completely rusted through and falling apart (went through a flood at one point in its life). I was able remove the old sockets without damaging the housing. My issue now is how to hold the new aftermarket style sockets in place and still maintain a body ground since I believe the old sockets used the housing as a ground. I have attached the new aftermarket socket that I purchased. I can fit the socket through the housing up to the flat circle on the housing. I know that tab of the back of this flat piece is for a grounding wire but it would get in the way of installation. Anybody have any ideas on how to do this without doing to much modification to the housing? My original thought is to break that grounding tab off, epoxy the socket in place and then solder a grounding wire to the socket and ground to the nearest body ground. I figured I would check on here to see if anybody had any better ideas first.

Shouldn't be any issue, since that socket fits into the hole, from the backside.

Take a ohm meter and put it on the tab and the socket itself if it has continuity you are golden,

u could always take the guts out of the new socket and solder a ground prong to the housing where it won`t be in the way, then hook it up after installing. I did that to my original 1968 side marker lights, they were bad about getting and keeping a ground w/ undercoating , age and such.
