I am restoring my 70 Charger 500 and would like to get it back to stock (or at least close as possible). The tail light cable harness has a cloth (I believe) over braid that is disintegrating. I would assume that the over braid was used as a wire anti-chafe and more likely used to ease wire installation at the factory.
Does anyone know if there is a reproduction cable over braid that is used in conjunction with the tail light wire harness?
Does anyone know how far the original over braid extended in the trunk?
I also recall that this same over braid was used over the wire going to water temp sensor in the engine compatment.
I have access to an aircraft type black nylon over braid but of course it won’t be correct.

I think that 3m makes a cloth tape. I just redid mine in the back and I am not building a 100% correct but I am upgrading where ever I can. There are just to many things that we have learnde a better way to do in the last 40 years. So inside the back bumper I redid my wires with a high grade vinyal tape and went over that with corrigated plastic wire covers It looks good and will never chafe. But you are right, I may not do that where the wires are exposed to view.

I've never used them personally, but you might want to give these guys a call. They don't list your rear harness specifically, but the may either build you one or direct you to someone who can.

There's also a company called Alloy Metal Co. (James Thayer) out of NY that makes them for vintage Mustangs. Their number is 315.676.2405
