Purchased a 620002 TCI Diablo shifter from Jegs in October. Memo every month about delay and I waited. Arrived today. Unpacked with no instructions. Paper said to go online and download. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mzuj4ebd3f2umb7/AABQFYECeuZ_ocpNwqEXGwwGa?dl=0&preview=TCI-9094-5.pdf

My use is track only, reverse pattern 727, full manual valve body, with trans brake. This shifter has two button option on handle for line lock and T-brake.

Working shifter on bench it seems to have stops when pulling all the way to 1. Shifting from 1 to 2 has a positive stop. Then 2 to D requires a lever release but can go from 2 to N with no stop.

My reverse pattern goes from N to 1 with no stop. (that's OK) When you leave 1 there is a lever release but when you pull it can go all the way to 3. (this is bad)

I went to web site for operating instructions and found none. I googled and got pictures but no instructions. Videos showed street cars with standard pattern transmissions. I tried TCI live chat but there gone for weekend. Can't wait to hear from them. May have bought the wrong shifter.

Looking for info. Thanks Dave

Is there another shift gate that it came with? It should be like this.

Hold lever for N or a solid 1st. Pull back with no lever for 2nd(itll be a hard stop at 2nd) and then grab the level and pull for 3rd or D.

I had to change my shift gate on my TCI Outlaw shifter to get it right. You might have the forward pattern gate in it now.

Never mind, this is not a gate shifter.

Edit: Just kidding! You need the reverse gate. It is a gate shifter.

And a quick tip. Your cable will be getting near headers if you have long tube headers. I burned up my first cable. I ended up mounting the cable to a bracket off the trans pan and so far all is good.

Buying shifters is not as easy as we would hope. You frequently need to buy the "extras", proper gate for your application, maybe other stuff. Is a Diablo the same as an Outlaw?

I can not tell from their site or Jegs description. pretty disappointed at this point. I see on the Jegs site pertaining to the Outlaw it is mentioned about additional parts needed or a separate shifter is sold for reverse pattern. Not so on Jegs Diablo write up. It states works for 2,3,4,6 speed transmissions and reverse valve patterns. Nowhere on the TCI site is it discussed or the xtra parts shown. This whole thread is stupid. Some of us old, dyslexic, left handed, idiots NEED written instructions. Sorry and Thanks all. Dave

Thank You for all your thoughts and experience. I finished today and payed special attention to the headers and cable. I must comment on TCI a very respected name for many years. This expensive part was delivered with NO printed instructions. The path to an online set is in my first post. They suck. I tried their Chat to the tech dept line and was disconnected three times. They have an email to the tech section which I also used twice. Never a reply. Never. I called the factory and talked to a really nice guy that could not answer my questions and promised a call back same day. He never did. Finally went back to the web site and started looking at all the instructions. I thought a turbo 350 Chev has the same pattern as a 727 so I looked there. Low and behold in the turbo 350 section there are pictures and detailed instructions to change the pattern on the shifter. Guess what, it's not a gate that needed switched there is a small allen screw that is removed allowing the stops in the pattern to change. Its really quite simple and all the parts are inside the shifter. The instructions for the 727 are incorrect and incomplete. Sorry to be so long winded but this thing has totally screwed up a schedule and caused unreal stress. I guess I'm not stupid. Dave
