Where do you big block maniacs have your water temperature sensor located?

That's where I was planning on relocating mine. Previous owner had a tee fitting out of waterpump to heater hose and put the sending unit in that tee. I'm thinking it's not getting a good coolant flow that route. Aftermarket gauge seems kinda low 140-160 and the upper hose gets hotter than that tee setup.

ya,gotta have flow to read correctly.unless you have heater valve open no flow off the heater hose tee set up.needs to screw into wp housing.

After working on this car for the past few months, I've noticed alot of stupid **** on here for a guy that supposedly worked on and raced this thing. I just hope he knew how to build the motor or else I'm F'd. He didn't even have the right size nut on the starter solenoid.

The top hose is the return to the radiator. You might be surprised at how many think that's the inlet into the engine. It's not! Anyways, that's where you want your temp sensor....as close to the thermostat hosing as possible.

In the stock location because I'm using the factory gauge. If I had an aftermarket gauge I'd probably put the sender in that spare port near the hearer core taps.

I turned the heat on and heater hoses are hot so I guess it's got flow. Gauge only reads 150. I'm gonna swap it to the hole next to the thermostat.

X2 I use both of those locations btw factory gauge is 180° @ about second mark

F#CK that plug! I tried taking it out. The one next to the thermostat, it has the recess for 3/8 square drive. It's all messed up,so I took a 12 point socket and drove it on gently with a hammer. Used 1/2" breaker bar and wouldn't budget. Decided to use the 1/2" impact and that just are the outside of the plug off. I'm using the hole next to it. That plug is staying in. Now my luck the M.F'r will leak at the plug. Lol

if it does leak you will need to drill it out by slowly stepping up drill sizes until you can pull the threds out.the best way is replace the housing with an aluminum one.not too pricey, aroun 175 bucks or so. i6206.jpgthey polish up nice as well.

$ 175.. Damn, I'm not rich like you. I HIGHLY doubt it's gonna leak. It wouldn't even budge. I was just being sarcastic. Lol

Yeah it does look good.

Heat it with a torch then melt candle wax on it. When it cools it will be a lot easier to unscrew.

My factory bolt cracked when turning out with the impact, I went aluminum. Decent amount of weight savings and it really isn't that expensive in comparison to 99.9% of parts for these cars.
