Testing fuel guage

Can you test a fuel guage for a 64 chrysler newport outside of the dash by it self, since the voltage limitor is in the fuel gauge itself.

Can you test it ? Yes.
Various ways. If all your looking for is to see if it's moves just take 3 AAA batteries connect then in series and use this to power the gauge . Should make the gauge go to full
