I just came across these pictures and remembered how the whole thing played out so I thought I'd share q quick story. In 2009 before when I was shopping for the RR I have now I came across a 70 Roadrunner through a friend that was owned by a mechanic in Hull Quebec. My buddy that told me about the car had seen it and said it had pretty much just completed resto and was for sale for 28k but he knew I could get it for 25k.... What we didn't find out till I got to the garage to see it was 2 nights before I got there the owner and his buddy were "having a few beers" and "decided to do something really neat" as he told me in the front of the shop before I got to the back to see the car... His buddy airbrushed flames all over the front and up the fenders as you can see... I would have given him the 25k for the car and done the deal had I not had to worry about repainting so many surfaces at the front... when I asked him if he would paint it back and take the 25 he got completely pissed off and insulted that I "didn't like his flames!"

Here's the pics I found that made me remember the story :)

looks like someone put some time into the flames, pretty hard to tell by them fuzzy photos how good of quality it was... I personally wouldn't do it to my car, especially to a mostly stock looking 70 RR, could have blocked it down & re-sprayed it the solid color too, just tape off the rest of the car, if it was a quality decent, fresh paint job to begin with... But to each their own... IMHFO if the car was/had more of a race car look or pro-touring style car, with lowered stance, big wheels & tires it would fit somewhat better, that type of flamed paint job look...

Built for the track... 480 lift cam... 4.11 posi. Lol

Sorry for the fuzzy photos if my memory serves me right from that long ago the camera lens was dislodge in my blackberry so all my pics were horrible quality.

Knowing what I've put into the RR I have now in hindsight I might as well have bought this one and I can pretty much guarantee it would have ended up as a "HAMMER" clone but I don't regret leaving it be...

I can say from what I remember (I was honestly in shock over the flames at the time) the quality of the airbrushing was great and apparently took the artist no time to do (and did it after many many beers I was told) but there were a few odds and ends that weren't quite together on the car and there was some work to complete.... I think the hood was still in primer and I know the air grabber assembly wasn't all there or what was there didn't work... I also remember that his bargaining leverage to get me to pay full asking was the offer of throwing in a 6 pack intake and carbs that he had found for it and intended to put on. The engine had apparently just been done and the exhaust sounded sweet...

about 3 weeks after I saw the car and declined purchase the owner passed away suddenly.... I tried to find out if the estate would be selling the car and maybe get it for something more reasonable to find out that a family member just kept it.
