I purchased "OE" spark plug wires from Mancinni Racing. Come to find out that most all of the "Mopar" parts companies are selling the orange wires as "OE" that come from Mopar. I have 2 problems. Some tell me they were Black and not orange and others including Mopar themselves, tell me that 1971 and earlier are orange, but the real kick in the *** is that the number 5 & 7 wire will not reach if put into the wire looms. Mopar said they have heard of this problem many times and said they will work in a 383 but have problems in a 440, but yet in all the advertising they say it will work for both. So now the tech tells me to buy long black ones and cut them down.
I have 69 brochures that show them as black, but again Mopar tells me that was before they even starting making the 69's.
So here I am with 2 short wires and not sure what to do.

As far as I recall, NO 71 & earlier cars had orange wires. At least none that came in my garage back in the 70's. I remember them on engines with the electronic ignitions.

wires

Thats nice of Mopar, they tell their dealers that 1971 and earlier are orange wires, and then sell them that way. BIG mistake on Mopar! Even if they were orange, 2 of the wires don't fit and they know about it! Now I will hunt down Black wires!

Thanks SS. Mopar has it listed as follows:

"Just like O.E., carbonsuppression wires are maufactured in the right color with the right lettering and each includes the correct spark plug boot. Set contains eight ignition secondary wires and one coil wire."

Then the part number

"P4529792 Wire set, spark plug, Orange, 1971 & prior 383/440 Big Block"

Someone screwed up!

1965 superstock hemi were brick red and maxwedge 62,63,64 were burnt orange only. fyi
