2020 National Historic Vehicle Inductee #28, is an unrestored black 1970 Challenger Hemi 4-speed R/T S/E with gator grain top. Interesting story about a special order car that was street raced, by an 82nd Airborne veteran / police officer, in Detroit back in the 70s.

I had never heard of the car or about the National Historic Vehicle Register until I accidentally discovered this video tonight. Others might find it interesting.

Didn't see that a thread was already started about it.. I wasn't searching for one, since the video was just posted today. Oh well..
Perfectly understandable.
Video was actually up on YT yesterday, which I got notified of right away because I subscribe to that channel
(both they and the Hagerty YT channel are worthy subsciptions IMO).
I started the thread on here immediately upon watching the video; it was that good.
 
Wow such a neat story, such a neat dad. The car shows you what they can inspire. An awesome family story. It also shows you the car hobby really has no boundaries..I’d love to see that car and family in person ... GQ was a hero in many ways. Awesome!

I was thinking the same thing. I bet they missed each other by a year or two. Could you imagine these 2 Hemi powered monters terrorizing the streets of Detroit!! We had a lot of street racing in my area up until the early 90"s then most of us had kids, got married (some divorced..lol). I think we were the last teenage generation that could afford to get our hands on cars and parts.
 
A super car with a super story to go with it. Kudos to the son for hanging on to it and preserving it.

When I was at Carlisle this year a family had a triple black 70 Hemi 4 speed Road Runner. It was a documented one owner car, and the kids were showing it for their dad (the original owner). Just a great car too, with a cool story.

Some cars attain legendary status due not only to the coolness of the car, but also the history that goes with them!

That is a nice Challenger and a really cool story. Sounds like the original owner was a great guy and a good family man. Thanks for posting this video.

time frame would cross as the bullet was around till 71 or 72 is the last story told on Woodward when i ran there

The Silver Bullet was far from stock,and if I remember correctly would run low elevens in the quarter,High tens in it's final configuration. This Hemi Challenger R/T SE was basically stock,but with a good tune 4.10 gears,and slicks would probably run low to mid twelves in the quarter. But back then there were not too many muscle cars running twelves on the street,most were fourteen to fifteen second cars,so the Hemi Challenger would handle most of the cars out there back then,only the hard core racers like the bullet would have given him a problem.

i love the car don't get me wrong but i ran Woodward. but when i ran on the street i ran 12 40's so the silver bullet ran mid 10's and that Challenger must have run mid 11's i just don't like it when some one says it was the fastest when i know different.
