I believe it stands the number of batches of
engine blocks they casted. Example: Starting at batch #1 and on and on. Your block would be batch #10. Hope this helps.
 
It's the core revision number... different foundries use slightly different terminology but I have two sons with decades of foundry work between them.

The way Thack explains it is gospel. He explains it better than I have been able to.

I used to transport patterns between pattern shops and GM foundries 30 years ago...they used the same procedure.
