If you had the option which would you choose?

the 70 Plymouth Sport Satellite is a GTX clone in need of major restoration... lot of rust to deal with .. but it has a good running 440/727 combo... Needs 2 rear quarters and floors... interior etc... its a total project but is a daily driven on-going restoration project.... 440 runs very strong does not need work. The heads could use to be replaced..LOL but the engine is very very strong. Does not need work really, it makes good power and is fun to drive.

The 1939 Buick Special is all original, no major rust ready to drive.. engine needs rings and bearings its real tired but an easy fix... can be driven the way it is but needs work.

Two different ball games here, the 39 would stay original and the Plymouth all custom. Given the fact you already have a 650 rwhp Camaro would you opt for the slow ride.. 55 mph maybe 65 tops would be the max in the 39.. The 70 Plymouth w/440 is a 100% different car.. both are collectible.. and close to the same value with the Buick being worth a little more.

This is what either would like like finished

The Plymouth is coming along.. I have the new drivers side pan for it .. would like to get 5500 for but would take 4700 what I have into it... ton of new parts

I have to say im biassed in my decision - Do what makes you happy
Its like comparing apples to oranges
Id own a muscle car anyday to a car built 40 years prior and let me tell you theres much more of a market for a 70 Satellite than there will ever be for a 39 buick-guarenteed

I've been in your shoes

99ss, I believe I can speak from very close to your situation, aside from the camaro!

My last hot rod, so to speak, was a one owner 42K original mile 1941 Buick 2 door special. It was a great car and I had no issues with it in the year I had it. I received many great comments and questions whenever I took it out because it truly was a great find...even the tube radio worked just fine.

I ended up selling it because I was concerned about something failing unexpectedly on the severe hills around my house and parts were becoming very hard to come by. Even getting basic parts took an extended amount of internet time but it was doable. If it broke, I would be down for at least a couple of weeks.

As I've gotten my new, but yet old 69 roadrunner, it is impossible to look back. I love the rumble when it starts and rattles, and even without power brakes or power steering it feels much more safe and stable on the road. Having it all shiny and new is an unfair comparison in a way. The feel of how it puts me back in the seat is worth the extra bucks.

Not sure how that impacts your thoughts but now you know my story. Cheers and let me know how it goes for you.

Thats actually a ver good point, this would be driven almost daily and it is a concern of mine. wear and tear.. the owner says parts are easy to come by if you know where to look.. he has a few cars... one being a wicked 1960 coupe deville.. he calls the car a 4.. entry level type of thing I guess... it will need some work for sure.

Here is an idle clip of my camaro

well the 39 is a cool car.... how many exist? not many..... you'll ride in style knowing you have something no one else owns.
The Clone? is a CLONE no matter how you dress it up.... I've never understood why someone would pay high dollar for a fake. So sell it to me...cheap and cruise in the ole car and get the Camaro out when you need to go fast. We'll both be happy:D I'm just trying to help!

Lots of goods replies.... its very good to get others thoughts on this.. especially from an astute crowd of people who appreciate cars. Its a tough decision. I like the Plymouth and really want to finish it. But the Buick is so very intriguing... I've even thought about a bit of a limousine type service to maybe make the car make some money....
right now the big thing is I drive the Plymouth everyday and its cold out and the wind whistles through it... It needs too be off road and restored but is pressed into action as the Camaro has the engine out of it for inspection and might not be back for a while... The Buick is in 100% better shape than the Plymouth and that is driving a decision on me as well... getting sick of driving the frost mobile if you know what I mean.. but I've been looking for something hotrod or not from the 30's. it started as the 50's but there are so many of them I wanted to go earlier.. Ideal would be to keep both.. and maybe the Plymouth wont sell anyway for what I want out of it.

Pull the 440/727/8.75 from the Satellite and drop them in the Buick while leaving the body and interior of the buick untouched and original. Front stub the buick with updated suspension, add a good steering column and you will have a very cool one of a kind streetrod that will definitely turn heads.

Part the rest of the Satellite out to fund the mods to the Buick.

Cool cars buy the way

Joe

thats a very interesting suggestion.. very interesting.. wonder what it would look like?
But I need to sell the Plymouth to get the Buick

Well, if done right the ouward appearence of the Buick would be left untouched and original. This fact however would depend on how well the 440 and 727 fit into the engine bay and tunnel of the Buick. Get out a tape and see what kind of room you have to work with in the Buick and measure the width of the Buick rearend to see if the Plymouth rear will fit without mods. You can buy a complete weld in frame stub with complete custom suspension and a custom steering column for the Buick.

A friend of mine shoehorned a 440/727 into an 86 Firebird and you could not tell by looking at the outside of the car.

Sorry, I thought you already had both cars.

No problem, a 440/727 isnt hard to come by around where I live.. I never thought about modding the Buick to be honest but its an interesting idea...
It would be done over time.. the engine and trans and stuff could be accumulated for easy money and rebuilt.

Hahahahaha I knew it ..... I said it back in June.... " Seen this a million times. Having worked int he restoration business for nearly 20 years I know where this is gonna end. Craigslist, " for sale project car".....can I call 'em or what ?

Your a total assclown moron and nothing more. That was established back in June and nothing else. Go pound sand douche bag, your not even close to being right but I nailed your personality to the T... :icon_fU:

Internet ***-bag expert who doesn't have a ******* clue. People like you should be kicked in your dried up shriveled old nut-sack and pushed off a cliff.. Seriously .. your nothing but an asshole an apparently a total loser if all you can do is follow people around just to say I told you so.. LMAO! My guess is your divorced and hated most people around you but they don't tell you the truth as the leach off you for money... Sucks to be you but unfortunately we cant just shoot old ******** like yourself .. so you exist

The asking price is a lot more than what I paid and everything is for sale, its just a car.... I put all my cars on craiglist from time to time to see if I can make some money from them. You dont have a clue about restoration, me or my cars... you only think you do. Which is typical of internet assperts like yourself.

Do you know what motor is in the buick? I ask as many were the inline 8 cylinder motors and they're nowhere near as wide as the 440 and the engine bay is sized accordingly. Longer but narrower.

Also, I know it sounds cool, but you'd likely have to go all the way through the driveline with that route. the old axles are small!

Its the original straight 8.. little tired but still running good.

odsvet you are the classic internet expert..... you are 100% wrong, the car is halfway finished .. 100% in better shape than when I bought it and not being dumped on CL as you think. But your such a dumbass you cant see it for what it is.. so in short :drop dead of a heart attack and do the world a favor. Your useless and dont know what your talking about. The thread is for speculation... yes if someone meets my price the car is sold.. same as the engine and camaro in this thread... meet my price and its sold...
You just dont udnerstand how it all works, you only think you do.

keep the plymouth....dump the camaro that everyone and their brother has.. buy another plymouth,,,and another,,,then buy a dodge,,,,then another plymouth.... oh hell...buy a newport...did i say dump the camaro???,,,if i didnt,,,,,listen...DUMP THE CAMARO ! THE END...AND EVERYONE LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER !
