Ok folks, I am getting closer. Picked up all the components for my 493ci stroker this past weekend and I will be assembling the engine over the next couple weeks.

I have read and read and searched and searched dealing with oil pans.

This is a factory 73 Satellite SB car, but it has a BB k-member in it now.

What pan works with little to NO modification. I keep seeing 971 pans listed, but some say they still had to mod them and the bigger question is "is the capacity enough"?

Need some help as I would like to get one that works/fits from the start.

This will be a
493 (440 based)
10:1
Edelebrock heads
holley SD intake
avenger 870
60304 lunati voodoo cam
eagle crank/rods
diamond pistons

So I have some decent parts, just need to oil them as efficiently as possible.

Thanks

As your working with a 73 and up K, yes the 971 will keep coming up. Many of the car aftermaket pans (that I have seen) are based on the 187 pan. The 187 pan WILL NOT fit the K for 73 and up without modification. The 971 pans sump is smaller than the 187 at the front by about an inch to clear the K which also affects the capacity as the rear of the sump was not moved back proportionately.

Although the 971 may be fine for regular use IMO you will want higher capacity for sure

Thanks folks. I guess I will end up sitting it down in there a few times as I have access to just about any pan as I deal local with a parts guy. Bring me home a truckload of pans and get at it.
