Thoughts on running exhaust through cross member...

I am about to stick my floor pan in for the last time and weld it in and remembered an idea I had about cutting out the torsion bar mounts and welding two large pipes for the exhaust to run through.

I want the car low and that should help that a bit. Crossover might be an issue.

I know I have seen someone do it on here, it was only pictures, but cannot seem to find them now.

The car is a 68 Charger RT with a repop cross-member I already replaced, and it will be a coil over conversion as well.

If you notch the cross-member more,
as long as you box it in or use tubing to run it thru,
all tied together etc.
it should be cool & fine structurally

help to keep the car low exhaust tucked up,
as long as you can keep away from the floor or rattling etc.

There's Oval tubing & adapters
to round tubing/mufflers etc. available too

get another 1"+ at the tubing anyway...

What about making the tube through the crossmeber part of the exhaust? IE Headers - intermediate pipe(with flex) - crossmember through's - rest of exhaust? like doing the through chassis adapters used on brake lines.

Thats definitely an idea.....hmmmmm, let me stew on that one

Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking! What size inner diameter pipe did you go with? Im thinking room for 3.5" should be sufficient.

Im for sure doing it now.

It was 4" outside diameter schedule 40 pipe.
