Had to pull the headers to replace the power steering box, on My 62 Dart, with a 440 motor. -- What is the best, (assume Hi Temp), thread sealant to put on the bolts ? -- I see that Permatex, high temp, sealant is good to 400 degrees -- Is this good enough ?

Do the exhaust bolts go into the water jackets on a 440? If not, don't use anything. If they do, I use this on the end studs in my SB.

End holes on the head go into the water jacket. If you can, put studs there with sealant on the threads. The rest of the holes are blind.

Why fuss ? Use studs. Eliminates the problem. Except on some header configurations, studs are not possible on one or two holes. Then use a sealer on the bolt.

Don't use silicone! Silicone is for rain gutters.

Non hardening #2 Permatex is great.

Yep. As an old fire sprinkler guy, I always had a small jug of this stuff laying around - we old school fitters put threaded
pipe/fittings together with "tape and dope" - and honestly I usually just used the teflon tape on sprinkler pipe, so I wound
up with full containers of this stuff laying around.
I use it on header bolts, always have. Works fine, nary a leak.

Oh, about just using tape on sprinkler pipe:
I got away with just taping pipe joints for decades because I'm fussy with thread depths on fabbed pipe...

Been building engines, transmissions, and axles for 45 years. Threaded connections get white Teflon sealer. It's cheap, it works. In fact the large tube I have is at least 15 years old. I know some will not believe and scoff. It will seal brake lines as well. Never assemble stainless brake lines without it. Keeps oil from wicking up intake bolts also.
