The throttle pressure shaft and the gear selector shaft are a coax arrangement and you not only have to pull the pan you also have to remove the valve body to properly replace the seals. Most times you will find is the valve body housing gets worn out where the shift selector rides and that tends to cause the large seal in the tranny housing to leak because the shaft is moving all over the place.
I was wondering , how if possible do you put the new seal for the case to the gear selector in if the trans is in the car? I took out my sealout for the same reason on my '68 rr, and, after removing the valve body, couldn't get the seal to either go in straight or warped it causing another problem (leak). I had literally no area to swing a socket and hammer and fabricating a homemade press didn't work. Finally, I took it to a trans shop and they must have had a tool to do it without pulling out the trans. I tried to even lower down the crossmember but still couldn't get enough of room to do it.
