Hi All,
I'm going to replace the open diff on me 66 Coronet with a 3.23 sure grip.
The 3.23 is missing the thrust block and I want to use the one from the old diff.
How do I remove it and install it in the 3.23?
Thanks

You don't. The SG uses a set of thrust "buttons" held together with a split pin. Look for a "blow up" of a SG and you will understand what I am describing.
Mike

The fact that it is missing, means that it is probably a clutch type SG. If it is, buy a new one from Dr Diff, the open diff one will not work with a clutch type.

If your sure grip looks like this...

There should be about a 3/8" hole through the center of your diff you need these..

What axle bearings do you have? Tappered or green? If green, the powers to be here say that you do not need the buttons. I leave them in, but you would be good to go without them if you have greens.

I think that the person that I bought it from took it out to use green bearings.
I had new tapered bearings pressed onto my axles.
I also have a set of axles with green bearings but I want to use the tapered bearings.
Thanks

If you have a cone type then the open thrust block might work, but I don't know for sure. If the spider gear pins are the same diameter, then there is a chance they could be the same. You would have to pull the ring gear off the open diff to get the pin and the thrust block out. Disassembly of the sure grip would of course be required to install it.

That's what I was afraid of.

U know, pics of the diffs would help a lot so we don’t have to pull teeth every dam time. Kim
Sorry about no pics but it's already been installed and I didn't know that the thrust block was missing until I tried to adjust the end play.
