they are fixable but they were always slow and not relaible . Most stopped very early on . I would just get the quartz updates one or leave it alone .

i rebuilt my dash on my 70 Road Runner last year. used all repro gauges from VANSAUTOLLC from ebay. the tic toc tach keeps perfect time and i drive the car every 2 weeks or so and when i get in,,,its the correct time ! i think it was 329.00....( i painted the tips orange, they did not come that way )

im sure you can fix it...anything can be fixed but youre not going to find it in any manual.

the dash looks great , did you replace all of it? How did you get it to look that good?

yeah i replaced all of it...all new gauges (vansautollc) and i got the "new and improved deluxxe" circuit board with the solid state voltage regulator (charger specialties). thanx for the compliment. i had it out, rebuilt,,and back in in a very long day. i painted the tips orange coz these dashes aint the easiest to see with all the black and white. i left the small gauges with unpainted tips. all new bulbs that some need replaced already. !

if you get the repro tic toc tach...be EXTREEEEEEEMEEEEELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY careful with the time set knob...if you look at my pic...youll notice its gone coz the damn thing is so freekin delicate, i bumped it and it broke off. now i gotta strategically set the time with a small pair of needle nose pliers....good thing i only gotta do that 2wice a year ! good luck !

Did you replace radio at this time if so what did you put in, my am does not work, have a price here in Canada of 100 to fix the am or 425 to go with am/fm cd/mp3 with the look of the org, Bur i would have to find a front speaker that operates as twin speakers and two rear to keep the look, mine has a rear speaker option as per fender tag.

stock am radio is still in there. it dont work either. i put a secrtet audio in the trunk and ran the controller up to the dash. you can see the controller right by the shifter. 2nd pic is before i rebuilt the dash !south park pix 032.jpgsouth park pix 043.jpg

I doubt it is covered in any service manual. The clock is an electro-mechanical. As people before said, probably the best choice is to get a quartz device.

BUT! I did keep mine and serviced it. I think the oroginal clock is kind of cool. It usually takes just a little bit of patience, some solvent and compressed air to clean it, and oil it using a VERY light weight clock oil at the exact correct spots (bearings). Nowhere else! And do some careful cleaning of the contact points.

Check this article out, it is quite helpful:

Most important from my experience: Do NOT oil in any other places than described in the article, and do NOT "over-oil it". :)

Good luck!
