I have a 440 harmonic balancer that is out of the car. I located TDC and am attempting to install the Mopar Performance timing tape. I am having a devil of the time reading this thing for proper installation. As I look at the front of the balance, do I place the TDC letters of the tape on the balance mark and wind the tape clockwise or counter?? i am stumped. Thanks for any and all help.

The engine turns clockwise from the front, so looking at the front of the balancer, the tape wraps clockwise around the balancer with 0deg mark of tape on the balancer TDC mark.

I suggest highlighting the timing case 0deg mark (tiny white paint dob or like), as your advance measurements will be read from the tape relative to this mark.

That is what I thought, but I thought I'd ask first before I screwed it up. Thanks for your help!

Best to use some clear finger nail polish on the meeting seams also to keep it on. I use to just use the tape as a reference and File the marks rite into the balincer then paint them White.

Great idea about the nail polish. The tape doesn't seem too sticky. Oddly, TDC was correctly marked at the factory scribe to the timing cover 0, or at least very close to it. I've also heard that using the clear packaging tape over the timing tape helps keep them on as well.

You got that right, spent about an hour cleaning of the remnants of my timing tape yesterday, it came off only after 20 miles of driving on her maiden voyage and exploded all over the rad hoses and brackets for alt and power steering. LOL

Does anyone make any better sticker tape that can handle the heat?

I put mine on 3 years ago and it is still on. No kidding!!! Crazy glue on back of tape every 2 inches or so and on the ends.

I sprayed my timing tape with clear polyurethane, seemed to do the trick.

I put my timing tape on about 3 years ago, and it has not moved at all. No clear polish or glue...just an ordinary Summit racing timing tape. I think the damper has to be perfectly clean and dry to start with. Stickers don't like grease or oils.

me too never had luck with the timing tapes they all came off within a short time... now I have a new balancer from Summit with all the degree numbers ... works !
