Got a 68 Charger, 383 with Hooker Super Comp headers and Hurst Pistol Grip. Holy cow is the cable tight to get to the trans. Previous A-Body project with same products went in easier! Not so much these B-Bodies.. ha

Already melted one cable. Any tips to avoid further? Gonna try heat insulations+tape on the end. Gotta literally run it through the headers after looping around from torsion bar.

Does the cable attach to the shift arm on the tranny from the front or the back ?
To stay away from the headers and if the cable comes in from the front,I run the cable to the passenger side of the bell housing under the bell and to the shift arm bracket. Same can be said for shifters that the cable comes from the rear.Shifter to passenger side, under the tail housing to bracket and shift arm.
In the photo you can see the red cable. I also made some heat shields out of scrap tin.I was using a B&M pro ratchet shifter. You can use some House wiring
such as 12-2 to get the length of the cable from shifter to shift arm.The stiffness of the house wire helps in molding the path. Worked for me !

Wow this is nifty and a solid idea.

I put a heat sleeve on mine and routed it between the starter and the block to keep it off the headers. It has survived for many years there.

For me I could never get a Hurst or B&M shifter to wk without melting the cable. This was back in the late 80's. Put in a turbo action and have never had an issue. Same shifter and cable going on 38 yrs now.

I always go around the right side and up between the dipstick tube and case with my cables. Have this way on both cars. No possibility of touching a hot tube.

^^^^^^^^^ NICE !

Your stuff is indescribable.

Shout out to y’all. Looping down the passenger side and around was the ticket. Not only easier on the cable, but only one real forced area near a header. Brilliant stuff guys! Thanks!

it looks like either a different cable mounting
bracket or tweaking your existing one to get the cable in a more straight line will help even more. Either way you look good to go now.

Rear entry cable....the only way to go. PPP makes a very popular unit.
