Ok 69 B body. Installed SS springs & now have a tire rub. I put a spacer behind the rim & it looks ok, still rubs. Please look at the pics. Looks like the rub is from the spring clamp on the spring. Can I move it back. I don't think I can get it back far enough. Or I can remove it & either use the Mopar adjustable spring clamps or some I bought from the local hardware store. Please look at the tire. Maybe it's not that bad

I think an add on hardware store clamp is thicker and will make the problem worse. It is hard to see in the pictures, because it looks like there is enough room there, so I don't have any great advice.

I would say to find it and fix it though. Tire sidewalls are the weakest part of a tire, and rubbing a sidewall constantly is a good way to blow out a tire - you don't want to do that at speed! Be safe!

If I use the hardware store clamp I would remove the SS clamp & put HW store clamps in different places. 1 behind the SS clamp & 1 in front of it. Making sure there was no tire rub anymore.

What kind and size of Hoosier tire is it. And if you drive on the street even with the clamp taken off it will rub on turns. I know as I went through the same thing. My 63 has stock wheelwells and the springs are in the stock location. I had 29 x 11.5 Hoosier QTP tires that fit about like that as I had about 1/4" room but it rubbed real bad on turns like highway ramps and sharp turns. So I went to the Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slicks and have plenty of room and they never rub at all. And I just use SS springs but it hooks good enough to run 10's. Depending on the size they are you may want to go to a smaller tire. Ron

I think you are right Ron. Pretty sure it rubs only when I turn. It's a drag only 29x10 slick. If o could get that darn band clamp out of the way it would be ok

I think even gaining that little bit would still be iffy, If it were me I'd either get a slightly narrower tire or offset the hangers a bit. Safety first

If I can get that clamp out of the way I can grind on the spring of I need more clearance

What about going to a 29 x 9 ? That should give you enough room ? Ron

I just recently bought these slicks. Over $400.00. Would rather move the clamp.

Can you loosen the axle clamps and front hanger and pull all the slop out towards the middle of the car? might gain you a 1/8-1/4"

I thought aBout that. Not so sure it won't bind the suspension up. Plus then I will constantly have to check to make sure it didn't move back

is there any room on the outside ?? to use a 1/4 spacer between the rim & drum maybe

I've heard of some guys take off the rear spring straps altogether on like the XD springs,
"allegedly" works the spring to lift & separate more like an older style S/S spring,
But I'm not sure it would be good on a S/S spring that has a bunch of lift already...

BUT I've never tried it thou, I can't say if it really would/could work out well or not...

Could cause a bad upward axle spring wrap & pinion angle on hard launches too,
but you could shim it with some wedges to compensate possibly for a bad pinion angle...
you could always try it...
you could also move the spring clamp forward too {or backwards}
But it will effect the way the spring works thou...
you could always try it...

I doubt just removing the spring strap will get you enough clearance, I could be all wrong thou...

Try this: http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/offset.html
Some money and some work involved but will cure your problem.

Thanks. Thst may be an option this winter. I did not know they made this

Hello Budnicks. Yes I have put spacers in for now cause I wanna go racing this weekend. The band clamp is not that tight on the springs. I can take a hammer & tap the leaves around when the U bolts are loose. I can't movd the band clamp forward cause it's less spring as you go that direction & it won't fit. I think I am going to try some universal spring clamps they sell at a local hardware store. Give it a try anyway. I wish now I had put mono leafs on it. Heck I may just order a pair
