Hey everyone Im looking for a good place to get some tools. I wanted to know if there are any good places on the net to buy from.

I was just looking at Harbor Freight USA and they have a mig welder that runs off of house current for $89.99 but that is in store price. The store is about half hour or so away from me.

I sold a mig welder a few years ago that I bought brand new and never got to use. I thought I would sell it to someone who needed and would use it until I could get back on my project.

My dad had a big welder that he used at his shop and when he did a lot of frame work. This was a big gas tang welder and its not something I would need.

Im really looking for a good deal right on a mig welder. I want one that will run off of house current. I know I can rent a welder and be done with it but I do have another project that I want to do later on.

My dads tools have been used for twenty plus years and some will need to be replaced but most if not all are still good and like new.

I would like to find a good place online that has good prices and good tools. I really need a welder right now or by spring.

Personally, I would look around your local area for something like a mig welder. Check for Farm & Home stores or a Tractor Supply for some decent deals, plus, it'll save you money on shipping. Another reason I say this is that with something like a mig welder, you are going to be needing consumable parts like tips, rollers, gun liners and things like that, so dealing with a local source means that the consumables you'll need will be local and you can pick them up whenever you need them, plus, if any issues arise involving warranty repairs, you're dealing locally.

Get a good welder. You can go to Lowes Home improvement or Home Depot and get one that cost a little more and you can get parts for. Tractor Supply has a Hobart that is nice too. the welders at Harbor Freight breaks on you throw it away cause you can not get parts.

Tools I can bend their wrenches with my hands and I am disabled. Good air tools and power tools.

Air Comressor Lowes has a Kobalt for $400.00 that is a great buy.

i have a hobart handler 135 (with Gas) that runs on 110v. nice machine for doing sheet metal.

First off, do you know how to weld? I would think that if you were a welder; and I mean no disrespect to you in this -- but a trained welder would never buy a Harbor Freight pile of Sh**. I learned long ago, that you get what you pay for. And, if I can assume you are going to be welding in new AMD items to our super rare cars, you would want to have good looking welds that are also well applied and will hold as the cars drive around.

I got a new Lincoln Power Mig 200 for 1100 bucks 8 yrs ago from www.weldingmart.com and it was brand new 240v. Ask yourself, do you really want to make welds on your car from a 90 dollar Harbor Freight POS? I have found Harbor Freight has little of anything that is worth the time to buy; their grinder discs and cutting wheels dissolve in front of my eyes as I use them, their gloves last one day per pair, their drill bits are very cheap and last for one maybe two cuts. Some of their tools are ok; their 20 dollar grinders are great, their small air tools are also great, air fittings, etc. are great! It's hit and miss in that store for stuff that's good.

Harbor freight is def. hit and miss...big stuff like the welder, forget it. little stuff is ok, stuff you're not going to use all day, every day. the only thing with their air tools is you HAVE to oil them EVERY time or you will fry them :tongueflap: most of it is not bad for the price...BUT you do get what you pay for!!!! :HappyNewYear:

I got a HF welder one time, I was real disappointed with it. It worked well enough to get my patches in , but it sucked. After I was finished with it I sold it on eBay and got most my money back. When it comes time for another, I will be buying a better one.

My dad always did welding and I asked him about it and he said NO we are going to get a good welder so save your money.

We did call around and get some prices and got a good price on a Miller for 600 and something and we think the guy my dad deals with (or did for years) at the store will come down a bit.

I have never welded my dad has for 30+ years as a body man. My dad is now legeally blind and I will be his hands and eyes as he tells me what to do. My dad can see just not good enough to do the welds himself.

I did some research on the net and I saw mixed reviews on Harbor freight and I think I will stick with a local store with a good name brand.

How do you guys like Hobart? I hear they are owned by Miller.

Thanks guys for the info. I had a stroke a few years ago and was learning to do body work and painting. Im just now getting a little of what I lost back as my dad loses more.

the HF mig sucks!! my boss listened to us and bought a 110 volt welder ,only problem is it was from HF. the tip is always hot the trigger only feeds the wire. dont know how many times I flashed myself.Do yourself a favor and get a good one! your eyes will thank you.

My buddy had a shop a few years back, and sang the praises of miller..can't remember wat model he had tho....

Once you get a good welder you will find all kinds of uses for it. Like the above posts say, HF stuff is not any good.I bought a Miller years ago. I love it. Its one my favorite tools I own. Plus, if you buy it locally, it will be easy to get replacement parts quickly (like tips and wire, ect.) Oh, and get a good auto darkening mask for welding with.

Hey everyone I just missed one on craigslist that was local for 300 bucks. This was the Hobart 140 model. The add said brand new so I guess it didnt last long.

I have a good helemt its my dads and I will add another one to the fold.

I sold a welder a few years ago and wish I kept but I thought I wasnt going to be able to finish the car or weld the panels my self (stroke) so I sold it to a family member who has used it a lot and still does. I got that one from lowes.

Tell me about this mig welder

http://www.tractorsupply.com/welding...welder-3811167

I cant find much on it on the net yet. Im trying to find reviews and will go to youtube as well to see what I find on it.

I called the tractor supply place today as well as the other outlets. The girl at the tractor place said they only had two brands the Campbell and Hobart.

The Campbell is 199 and that helps my wallet but wont help me weld if its a piece of junk.

Thanks all and Im still looking and learning on what I need and will buy. The Miller welder Im still holding on to but they are only open on week days.

Its a Campbell Hosfeld welder. This at tractor supply if you look it up on their site. I will try link it here again. This is a Campbell 85 115 Volt for $199.99.

The hobart is better. I have a friend that has a Campbell hausfield welder and it's junk. The adjustment know for low and high heat is broke so he can only weld on high no parts for it. It's made in China

BTW Tractor Supply does have layaway. I'm on disability and the layaway helps in that dept.

I was looking at that one as well. I need to go into the store and look at them. The girl that was helping me on the phone said they only had two models in stock and I asked what they where and got the names lol.

I told her thank you and I would be in. I might go in Monday when I go get groceries as the stores are next to each other.

I called sears (they carry the same ones) and asked what they had in stock and they dont carry any its all from the catalog.

Lowes is out expect I think for one but it wasnt what I was looking for.

I know Wal-Mart carries Lincollen welders so I may give them a call as well. I do like the name brand stuff as parts are there and I like dealing with a local shop and this places that has the Miller always treated my dad right.

I just need to make the time to go in and check them out and reading on the net has been a bit challenging to get a lot of the info Im needing.

You guys have been of great help. Thank you and keep the info coming.
