Torque on 727 transmission pan bolts?

Ive heard everything from 8 to 12 lbs how tight you all usually get them? Thanks.

FSM says 27 ft lbs. Just make them tight.

Right, no need to get crazy. Most important to me is put blue loc-tite on all of them and then you won't have to worry about any of them wanting to back out from vibrations.

When using a cork gasket, as soon as you see the gasket push out...STOP!!! Never in my years of turning wrenches have I ever put a torque wrench to an oil pan.

1970 FSM states 150 INCH pounds for the oil pan bolts. So...12.5 ft/lb.

Do like Ironbuilt said. See the gasket squeeze out just a little, stop.

Disregard my first post. That's for the bell housing to engine bolts. (See you made the correction)

Stock trans pan? Put your fist right over the top where the ratchet clicks, not much torque at all!

Oldbee and Photon440 have the right answer - with a stock, sheet metal pan, tightening the bolts excessively will bend the flange and create future leaks. I tighten mine like oldbee described - same as stamped metal valve covers. I think I actually used a 1/4" torque wrench last time - seems I remember it felt about the same.

1/4" ratchet or even a nut driver is more than adequate. Since we aren't tightening these very hard a small dab of blue Loctite is a good idea so one doesn't back out and leak and we have to call you 'Jimmy Van Loose'
