What is the proper torque for my 1968 coronet R/T lug nuts, with Mag 500 14" rims? I think I over torqued them, I put 140 ft lbs!! It is my belief it should be 100 ft lbs., asking for advice.

Per my 1969 Coronet FSM, its showing 65 ft/lbs, though it states 14" steel disc wheel.

A friend who is a tireguy said both steel and aluminum 88ft/lbs and so do I.

should be 85 foot pounds for any 1/2 inch stud.i run a tire heavy repair shop and have looked at many torque charts.if for some reason you have 7/16 studs(older car)then it would be 65 lbs.

I guess I had better back them off, to 85, hope I have done any damage. I may have been thinking of my truck, for the 140 ft lbs and it did not feel like it took a lot of force to get the 140, thou.

only damage you can do is warpage of wheel, rotor,or especially drums.if you get no vibration at speed(65 or so)and no vibration when braking you should be fine.ya,newer trucks have 9/16 or 14 mm studs and use much higher torque specs.
