I pulled my old torsion bars off, and i was wondering the right side is stamped 660R, the left side is stamped 661 L. Is the number a measure of length or strength or something else? I noticed the right side is a bit shorter than the left. Also, guessing its best to replace 40 year old bars, so what is the best place to get new ones? Should i install larger diameter ones, i currently have 15/16" diameter bars in my 73 Roadrunner?

Thanks!

The number is the last three of the part number.

3402660 Right hand bar
3402661 Left hand bar

The 660 and 661 will also be found on the broadcast sheet. The bars fit 73-74 B body with 318,360,400,440. They are 43.6" long and 0.94" in dia.

If they are not rust pitted or sagging (cannot adjust ride height), why replace them?

That is a very good question, i was not sure how to check to see if they are still good or not. They are not rusted and they appear to be still mostly covered in original black paint.

I did notice they are not straight, but are they supposed be straight? Both have a bow in them, or arc if you will, is this an indication they are sagging?

Thanks

Did you notice them not being straight before you took them out of your car? Im asking because mine appear straight to look at them in the car, I don't think they should have a bow in them.

Hey Ron,
Hard to say when they were in the car, most likely i will replace them anyway just to be sure that i am not putting fatigued ones back in the car.

Probably a good call bud! This way you should never have to worry of any problems, I don't know much as far as what gos wrong and how often it happens, so i think thats the way i would want to go myself with a full off resto like your doing. Good luck buddy, i cant wait until you can start posting updates...

I need to find a place to start posting pictures, its actually on the rotissire now, and the doors, hood, fenders have gone to media blast, so now while its there i am getting all the suspension torn down de-rusted, cleaned aand off to get powder coated!!!! What a project!
