Hi guys. I posted this at the 'other' Mopar site, but didn't get any response as everyone was discussing the new Buick's. Anyways, any ideas on how to go about tracking down the previous owners of a car? I suspect that the car I bought was not from the original owner, and being an LA built car (lacking a broadcast sheet), I was thinking that I may be able to find the original dealer invoice or window sticker from a previous owner (long shot I know). The person I bought the car from lives in CA if that matters. Thanks.

Good luck. Not gonna happen. Get as much as much as you can from the previous owner if possible.

Contact the person you bought the car from and see if he has any old registration paperwork that show previous owner when he bought the car. Don't know how things work where you live for titles and registering a car. Maybe go to your courthouse/DMV and see if they can do a title search.

I got lucky with my GTX. I wrote an email to Galen Govier over 12 years ago, and approx 14 months later I received a reply. he had tracked the original dealership and owner to a town in Iowa. I don't have a BS, and no hope of finding it as one previous owner was a 'pot-head' and was known for his rough approach to cars. I'm just lucky that so much of the car was intact when I finally got the thing.

Once I had that dealer info, I spent another 6 months tracking the original owner all the way to Vegas :) Called him up and gave him a real shock.

Good luck in your search - you will need a certain measure of it...but it can happen sometimes..

In some or maybe all states you can do a title search. If it came from another state at some point then title search that state. I did this many years ago but don't know if gov privacy regs have shut that down.

I had made a post at one time on a site that you could have them do a search your gonna have do a search in the post to find it I have misplaced it

Some people just don't want to be bothered,to them it's like robo calls.

In Ontario we have to get a UVIP(used vehicle information package) before registering a used car. When my son got his 72 Sattie, we got one from the Ministry for 20 bucks, and it listed every owner from new.
