I took the car for a little trip down the street for the first time since getting everything back together. Just light acceleration the car will climb Rpm and just when it should shift it sound like it pops out of gear and the RPM will free rev. IF I put my foot into more it sounds like it grabs next gear and will continue to cruise . It will down shift, I can put it in low gear and everything seems to accelerate fine. From a dead stop I can give it a little punch and it has no problem grabbing. Reverse seems to be fine. Coming back into the drive way I put it in park and it did not seem to want to engage, car would roll in park. Cycle threw gear and it will eventually engage. randomly.

The motor was pullled and rebuilt the Transmission and TQ were left untouched. Before tear down , transmission was working normally.

I do have an Edelbrock RPM manifold on the car. But I belive I have all linkages (stock ) adjusted properly. IN the picture, #1 slotted rod is adjusted so it is at full forward movement and no slack to throttle lever of carb. WOT throttle moves # 2 linkage (kickdown ?) to full rear ward movement.

Gear shift selector was placed in park, full forward position and then tighten adjusting bolt on rod.

Fluid level is fine.

Check throttle valve at the other end of the kickdown (trans) to make sure it goes through full travel with accelerator. Column shift? Can easily have worn torque shaft bushing causing it not to have positive engagement. Also the steering column shift detente may be off. Car rolls in park means parking pawl is not engaging to lock the output shaft. Suggests that shift mechanism is off. Don't drive anymore until all of this is fixed. The pawl not engaging is ok with a functioning parking brake but everything else needs to be checked.

A plugged filter or week pump could give some of those symptoms

I think the park situation is a pretty simple fix. It is a floor shift setup (stock) . I pulled the pan again last night because it kept leaking when it sat over night and all the fluid would drain back down. is there anything else I can check while the pan is off ? you said don't drive, but how else can I tell if the shifting problem is fixed ?

I thought this thread was about Bruce Jenner

Wrong thread NJRR. Jenner only runs in the altered class now.
Canadian68 it might be a good idea to pull the valve body and clean it while you are in there. Also check the band adjustment and air test the servos.
