Just bought 18 spline trans (I hope) on the left side I have the following numbers and letters =C95664 z and 6x1 or a l. On the right side I have A4 and C97372 , on the tail I have 3 96707J. I have counted the spline and I did get 18. What do the rest of the coding mean?
those numbers are just casting numbers, but they can narrow down a production era. The case number 97372 was short lived and is a 1967 numbering and I can tell by the boss, which shouldnt have any numbers stamped on it. The extention housing number 707 is the 66 /67 /68 housing, with the '307' bearing size. 6 x 1 is the cast date (1966) june or june of 67, but doubt it.
Is the bearing retainer 4 3/8" diameter?
So it was from a GTX or R/T
