Anybody know how many PSI go through a trans cooler line (directly to the rad. no external cooler)??? It's an 055 rad from '69 i had re-cored to a 3-row H/E...

Want to put a rubber hose on one of them until the new lines get here...

Thinking of flaring both sides of the break and hose clamping rubber fuel line over and behind the flares...

Any thoughts, gents??

i ran rubber fuel line for my tranny lines. been like that probably 4 5 years. didnt even flare the end of my lines. just put em on the end of the lines and clamped em. using fuel hose for psi and return side. never had a problem. i always did hear around 50 60 psi. i dont think thats right though.

Thanks! ya i heard that it's like 5-6psi or something low like that...

My RR has rubber in and out with no problems. Not to hijack but does anyone no what a ideal trans fluid temp should be?

Trans temps usually run right about the same as engine temp. Because of the nature of ATF and the pressure on the high side, you should use line intended for transmissions.

If you are using rubber hose, I would use reinforced hose specifically designed for transmission lines. I'm not sure what the pressure is, but I would feel better knowing that I had too strong of a hose rather than wondering if my hose was strong enough and whether it was going to eventually balloon from too much pressure and fail. Stuff like that usually happens when it's most inconvenient.

well, after thinking about it, and looking at the rubber, i'm going to go with steel line after all.

i'm just going to flare the two ends of the steel line and use a coupler for it.

I used steel lines on my car when I did the engine swap, but ran reinforced rubber hose in the car for over 20 years (between when my parents had the car and when I got it) with no issues. I just looked ugly. I believe the transmission lines are supposed to be double flared at the fittings as well.

Rubber hose does work...If you ever take the car to the dragstrip they probably will not let you run...They want steel...I,d use steel..

You can use rubber hose for the trans line connectors at the track but it needs to be double clamped. I run steel line(stock) but when I added a trans cooler I used hose to connect it. I have had it this way since 99'. I just changed them this year because they were looking weathered so I did a little preventive maintance.

Here it is...the before (with rubber) and the after (with steel). I feel lot more confident with the steel...

thanks for all your response gents!!!
