HI,
there should be a bushing or O-ring where the linkage goes into the transmission.

good luck take care be safe

If it turns out the cable sheath is leaking, heat shrink tubing seems to be the best option. Both cables do have o-rings for sealing. There are many spots for leaks to form so spray everything with brake cleaner and run it to be sure before resealing.

493 mike, did you try the shrink wrap? home depot ed
No. Some others here have. You need to purchase as small a size that will slip over the end. There are different shrink ratios available so if a larger size is needed, buy the 4:1 ratio and either way get the glue lined tube.

so you have the take the cables off ? and where do i get the glue lined shrink wrap ? many thanks ed

On my 60 Dart push button cable, I cleaned the area with brake cleaner and smeared some 2 part epoxy glue around where the leak was and have not seen a drip since. That was 20 years ago. I guess I was not aware there was an O ring in there since I didn't take it apart.
