I have a 4sp trans w/ alum case and a steel tailhousing didi they come like that or did someone frankinstein it?

a buddy of mine has the same thing and my '69 RR also has alum bellhousing w/steel case.so i'm sure it's not frankensteined.

sorry didn't read thread right(brainfart).were you asking just about the tranny case and not the bellhousing?

Mopar didn't use an aluminum bellhousing till 70. So if your bud has a 69 runner with an aluminum bellhousing it has indeed been frankensteined. Also, on a big block that would require using a different diameter flywheel than the 69 originally came with.

But back to the question. Yes, the aluminum case and steel tailhousing could be frankensteined, or not. If it's a short tail (I.E. A body) then it definitely has. If it's a long tail, then maybe. There were some TRUCK trannies that were like that. They are the O.D. trans, and NOT a "regular" 4 speed

its the long tail with 2 mounting pads for the shifters, one for the b-body and one at the end of the tailshaft

Probably an O.D. from a truck. If it still has the shifter plates on it, one will point up, the other down.

The case would be from an OD truck. The internals may have been swapped out however.

that is a possibility.....unless one lever is up and the other down.
