OK so the 23 spline 4 speed in my 70 RR was TOAST. Basically it leaked all the fluid out the front cover and totally destroyed the trans internally and the clutch as well. I had my cousin who's rebuilt many transmissions in the past, look at it first and he said it would probably cost more to rebuild than to buy.

I live about 80 miles from Passon, so I drive it up there (I was on the way to the Pocono's with the family anyway so it was super easy) and have Jamie look at it this past week. He tells me it's going to cost pretty much the same $ to rebuild as it would be to buy one that's been rebuilt. So basically $1400 for a 70 and up B body either way I do it. It's not matching numbers, so I don't really care about that.

My question is, should I rebuild the trans I had, or should I have him rebuild another one, take the old one back and try and sell it? Can someone tell me what an completely pulled apart 23 spline B Body trans would be worth? Even if it's $100 or so, at least it's SOMETHING back to me in the long run.

Just looking for your opinions before I drop more loot.

Did you ask Jamie if he would take the one you have as a core and give you something for it? The parts are worth something to him. Also, ask him if he has a date correct unit to sell you. Even though not a numbers car, if you can put in a date correct unit, why not?

I will take it if he wont give you a good core price. Got a pic of the digits on the housing?

NJRR and I are of the same opinion. See what you can get as a core and go from there.

You could get the much hyped Passon-5 if you can wait 3 years. Did he mention them. Any on the shelf or still long waits?

I don't believe he wants it as a core, but I'll confirm. I don't have a pic of the housing, but I do have the #'s from it:

If I read the numbers right, it's from Friday Jan 9, 1970, so it's close on the date correct.

No word on the 5 speed stuff. I had seen an 18 month waiting list and the price was insane, so that's just not going to ever be in my cards unless I hit the Powerball.
