I have a 64 Sport Fury with factory console shifter and a 68 727 transmission. Are there any easy ways of mating both. I had a cable made up from some company in Frankenmuth Mi. The cable was nine miles long and I had to loop it over the starter just to get hook up with the mounting brkt. Need less to say the headers destroyed the cable. I can use all the help that I can get.

Probably need something like I'll do on mine.

64 Sport Fury, with a 67 model 727. With a console shift, already a step ahead. Look at 67, 68 type console shifter hook-ups, that use the shift pivot, and linkage.

I have done this on my Sport Fury. You just need an aftermarket shifter to fit under the console. Some used the Quicksilver shifter. Then just install according to the directions. Make sure the shifter fits through the slot in the console top plate, and works through its full range of motion. You have to put a heat sleeve on the cable, because it routes forward, towards the engine. That's all there is to it.

Just need to 'adapt' shifter hook-ups. 65s and earlier used cable shifters, though that doesn't mean it's a must, especially fitting up a later trans. Later 727s used linkage hook-up.

For mine, with a non stock shifter, that actually looks like it used a cable at the shifter itself, going to the 66+ shift linkage. Main reason is, it's all adjustable. Only thing I have to do is link up between the shifter itself, and the shift linkage arm. Can be a short piece of rod, or real short cable, inside the console.

Anyway...your call. Plenty of ways to do it, without using a long cable.
