Our 70 Bee has an 833 date coded from 1968. It's an old 'iron box'. We still have a slight vibration after rebuilding the rear, so we checked our motor mounts and found the passenger side was torn. Replaced that this weekend, and wanted to follow up with a new trans mount, too.

Question is, the new trans mount doesn't seem to fit anywhere in the crossmember we have, which looks like it's been modified...read that as 'hacked'. The boxed part in the front has been cut into two tabs, two holes have been drilled from underneath with two bolts going through a slice of rubber, attaching into the trans. That piece of rubber is about 1/2" thick.

Looking it up in the service manual, our crossmember isn't at all what is depicted. Researching a little more, on Brewers Performance website, we found that we probably have what was originally a '71 crossmember... but, they also show a 70 B Body Crossmember that is made for use with an earlier trans.

We'd like to get the correct crossmember for our application, and having an actual trans mount instead of this rubber cushion would probably be a good thing. Any ideas?

Yup. That's probably the source of the vibration. If the transmission doesn't have the correct mount, or if the mount is old and soft, the transmission will sit lower in the crossmember than it is supposed to. This causes the drive shaft working angle at the U joints to be incorrect and will result in a vibration. You need the correct crossmember and mount.
