How can you tell if you are looking at a true GTX and not a clone? The car I'm looking at does not have a fender tag. Can you determine that just from the VIN?
ALL GTX's are hardtops or convertibles.
Ok, I'll open the can of worms.....
RM21U3...73 Road Runner coupe with a 440.....A "GTX" or not?
IMHO no. for me, in order for it to be a GTX, it should start with RS23 (or 27)
what are your thoughts, 69?
IMHO no. for me, in order for it to be a GTX, it should start with RS23 (or 27)
IIRC in 72 GTX became an option for the Roadrunner versus a separate model, and then the RR became an option on the Volare platform.
This is always a topic of discussion....
There really was no 'GTX package option' per se. You couldn't check, say, the A15 package box on the order form and receive the items in a package. If you ordered a RR with a 440 it came badged as a GTX, not a RR as in previous years (69-71). In fact it wasn't really an option at all. If you wanted a 440 in a RR it came with GTX badging standard. It's the blending of the badging with the engine in a separate model that causes the discussion. Was it a RR (per the VIN) or a GTX (per the badging)?
