Hello all,

My trunk lid latch is toast. I procured one from a member here, and am going to try and install it tomorrow.

It's going in A 68 coronet.

Any tips? Is it tough?

I couldn't find anything here when I searched, so I thought I'd ask in case anybody else was wondering also.

Thanks for any info.

Fred.

hey Fred, that should be an easy job to do. will require trial and error to get where you want it.

For some reason I've always shy-ed away from it. Going to hit it tonight. I was scared of it cause the mechanic wouldn't touch it. Probably not worth his time, but it sucks having to open the trunk trough the back seat all the time :)

Removing bottom and top seat pieces each time you need to get in the trunk? I would say 'sucks' is an accuracte discription. Plus, You got to be skinny to get through those supports!

I'm a big dude. I rigged up a screwdriver on a pole to get in there. hahaha

Also the seats are out for work, so its not all that bad, but still a pain in my knees every time.

Just a thought-if your latch holds the trunk closed....and open with a screwdriver from the inside...it may be your lock/lockrod that's broken.

I didn't get to get in there today. I'll have to take a look. Thanks for the tip, I'll look for the Lock rod.

I went to install it today, and realized the guy had sent me a door striker/receiver/latch, not the trunk latch. So I may need to go looking again.

Thanks to you, maybe just looking for a lockrod and not the whole mechanism.

So glad I asked!

Ok, even happier that I asked. I don't need a latch, I just need the rod that goes from the key to the latch, and they are available online for about $5. Once again, FBBO coming through in a big way, saving me $$$$
