other than grinding on it, anyone know of any way to get the tumblers out of mopar trunk locks like this? It's sealed front and doesn't have the pop off metal like later model ones do that allow access to the tumblers.

The Front Stainless has to be removed.. Do you have a replacement prior to removing?

Are you missing the key or is it frozen? On ignition tumblers there's a small plate on top to access the pins that when they line up allow to turn the key. If there is and you take the pins out keep them in order. Had a dealer do ignition lock years ago don't know about trunk.
You'll see the plate on top of lock under it are the pins. A locksmith could make a key or an old Mopar dealer

Not on this one. There are numbers on the cast pad, where Chrysler locks after 67 typically have tumbled access, but not on this one (66 charger trunk lock). The numbers are cv 993

Had my trunk lock out 30+ plus years ago. May those numbers tell how to set key cutting machine. The best way to describe it was you set some levers to match pins stick an aluminum blank in the machine and squeeze the handle and it cut the key. It's not like what you see in stores.

Bet if you had a dozen different keys for the lock one would work. Had a 1960 Olds the o'man put the key in the ignition of our 1964 Olds Starfire by mistake and it worked. Think GM only 7 or 8 different keys. 66's are harder trunk key is different than later years, at least mine is.
Looked at that lock again and it looks like the lock on my 65 Dodge? Is it an early 66 car?

I'll have a locksmith re key it but it's 6pm on Wednesday evening here in the Bay Area and I have 2 hours to get some work done on my 66....

Thanks for trying to assist

That lock sure looks like the trunk lock on my 65 Dodge. Is your car an early 66 car, maybe using up 65 locks?

IIRC there are 5 different pin combos and 6 locations, so that's 5 to the 6th power possible combinations.
(5x5x5x5x5x5) (although I've heard form multiple sources that there were really only 384 different cuts, FWIW)

I like to use an egg carton to keep my pins in order when working on locks.

I've not been into one like that, though. Is there a pin or rectangular area that could be depressed to release a cover or the front?

I read someplace in the late 60's early 70's that car thieves only had to carry 8 to 12 sets of GM keys to steal a GM car. After that came out GM increased the combinations. About ten years ago there were a bunch of Toyota's being stolen in CT and rumor had it that Toyota had a master key for all Toyota cars and somebody stole it. True or false?

I'm sure of the years, but i my repo days the my GM key ring had about 100 ign and 100 door keys.Mopar musta had 130.When Mopar went to the 2 sided key, there were only 60 keys on that key ring.
