I am using a TRW power steering pump on my vehicle. I just noticed that the pump pulley is slightly misaligned with the main pulley. Can the pulley just be pulled out a little on the shaft with no harm? I need to pull it out about 3/16" to line it up.

I'm no expert on power steering pumps but moving a pulley on a shaft doesn't sound to stable. Look into spacing the pump itself. I've had to space my alternator in my race car to align it with the crankshaft pulley/balancer/crank trigger combination. Been using these thick wall spacers that can be found at most hardware stores.

Called Steer and Gear and they had the same thoughts. Might work for awhile, might not. Pretty much a gamble. I am in the process of modifying the mounting bracket to try and make this work. Unfortunately the way these TRW brackets mount, it does not allow for a spacer to move it like the alternator. It pretty much is stuck where it is at unless you modify the bracket itself. Hoping I can get enough out of it to move it 3/16". Pretty tight.

I just came back in from working on it. I have it set now. If you look at the picture you can see two of the mounting bolts
that connect the pump to the bracket. What I did was expand the holes in the bracket wider so that the pump could slide forward some in the hole. I then shimmed the back bolt to make up for the movement forward. All looks good now. Maybe someday I will get the correct Saginaw pump for it.

*#$&!@!#(*#&*!!!! The seal is now leaking around the case. Couldn't see any previous fluid spots on the floor where I park. I think it broke through when the belt broke and I had to drive home. Fluid was low when I got home and now can guess where it got out. Serenity now, serenity now.......
