The turn signals on my '67 GTX don't work at all, can't even get the signals on the dash to work. Car was this way when I got it. Is there a basic troubleshooting route or should I try replacing the switch in the steering column. I've already replaced the turn signal flasher but no help; both terminals on the flasher are hot. The lamps are good as the amber parking lights work fine. Thanks for any help!

are you sure you replaced the turn signal flasher? There is a 4-way flasher under there as well. Terminals should only be hot with key on for the turn signal flasher. Do your brake lights work? Do your 4-way flashers work?

yes..there is a dedicated flasher for turn signal and 4 way. Tough where to start but does EVERYTHING else work like dash lights/gauges/etc?

Yes, everything else seems OK.
The turn signal flasher is only hot with the ignition key on.
The flashers don't work but I do get the right side turn signal indicator on the dashboard to light.
Thanks, I appreciate any and all help.

Is the emergency flasher working?Check all the bulbs, should be 1157...make sure they're working & the sockets for corrosion..Also check brake light switch. If i remember they share the power feed....

Check the grounds to all lamps. They ground through the light housings. I had one backup light that wouldn't work till I spun the socket in the housing and it made ground.

Fussed around with the flasher circuit and actually tried the new flasher I bought for the turn signals in the flasher circuit; then cleaned up the contacts on the miniature lamps for the turn signals in the dash and the flashers work. All the other lights work, but I am still out of luck on the turn signal circuit. Does this look like the turn signal switch in the steering column could be the problem? Thanks for everyone's help!

Any special tips on how to do this; can I just use a rubber mallet to get the steering wheel off the steering column after I remove the cover and nut or do I need a steering wheel puller?
Did you replace the cam along with the switch?
Thanks!

If both brake lights work then that tells you the wires from the turn-signal switch to the rear lites are good as the brake lites and T-signals share the same bulb and wiring from the T-signal switch to the rear bulbs are the same. If you can get a wiring diagrahm check for power at the T-signal switch at the connector from the T-signal flasher. I take the flasher out and put a jumper wire across the connector while testing. If you have power at the T-signal switch connector from the flasher and the brake lites work it needs a T/S switch. I cant remember the color of the power wire from the T/S flasher to the T/S switch as that why its nice if you can get the wiring diagrahm. Ron

Thanks Ron and Clemul. This steering column is a little more complex than I thought. I'll check for power at the connector and hope that the problem's there. If not where the heck can I find an antique steering wheel removal tool? Thanks!

You can get a puller at any of the parts stores that sell tools, O Reilly's, Auto Zone are Napa. They are not hard to find. Ronnie

Got the puller and removed the steering wheel; real easy. Replaced the turn signal switch. The trick is that you have to tape up the leads on the new turn signal switch in a flat row like the original one was. This will permit the wiring to be fished down the wiring channel. The next trick was to remove the wires from the old wiring jack (plug). Then the ends of the wires for the new switch can be put back into the old jack since they already have the pins crimped on the ends of the wires. All the turn signals work, flashers too. Thanks for everyone's help!
