68 sport satellite column shift with all new electrical using M&H harnesses. All works except turn signals, emergency flashers , and horn. These all worked prior to disassembly. When turn signal lever engaged however, the dash blinker does dimly and slowly blink, but nothing outside in front or back. No signs of life at all for flashers. Multimeter indicates horn relay and horn working under hood from battery but not when pushing horn button.

Is this fix as simple as a new column turn signal switch that may have been damaged on disassembly?

Did you forget to hook up the ground wire on the steering column? When you push the horn button, you are completing the ground to make the horn honk so it sounds like your problem may be a grounding issue. That is pretty common and is the cause of most electrical issues.

Hi all,

Long delay in a follow up post!

Doug pointed out I had the hazzard connector 180 degrees out - once I corrected that now my flashers work! But now my parking lamps don't work ( they did work after I made sure the lamp cans had good contact ground with the bumper). Why wouldn't the parking lamps work now??

I confirmed both turn signal cylinder cans under the dash are working. I've done some trouble-shooting and have determined that it's the turn signal switch that's not letting the turn signals work. In fact, I accidentally bumped the turn signal lever and it came on. If I hold the lever hard to one side, that signal works. If I hold it hard to the other side, it works. If I flip it back and forth like normal, no workie.

I'm not looking forward to the replacement....from what I'm reading, it's recommended to drop and remove the entire column. Doh! I just had the column out when we put the new motor in. I should have replaced it then just in case....

Sounds like the contacts are just worn down from years of use, had the same issue with a Coronet.

As far as replacement unless there's something different in a 68 I'm not aware of there's no reason to drop the column.
Will need to pull the steering wheel and other than that it's just the metal cover on the bottom of the column that needs to come off.

Found that Rock Auto has the turn signal but only listed under the trucks of same year (no idea why part SM 106) but save the old connection block and make sure to note which wire goes where as will have to reuse it.

i had same problem with my 69 gtx. i pulled the steering wheel to check turn signal cam. figured out the wires on cam were not making contact. bent them with a screwdriver puy back together. now everything works. also your engine wiring harness could be breaking down. mine did. no charging, no horn. got new wiring harness. haven't put it in yet, i hope it fixes those problems
