Two Questions

I'm getting closer to completing the motor install on my 1966 Coronet... I could use some help/advice with two different issues..

1 - Those bloody clips which hold the clutch rods in place; two up top and two down below. Is there any trick to get them in place?? I have been struggling with them and was wondering how other guys get them on.

2 - Alternator pulley removal/replacement. I've swapped pulleys on Chevys but never a Mopar. The pulley on mine does not seem to be screwed on..are they pressed on? In any event, how do you get the old one off and a new one on.. I had to get a pulley set to work with the new extended water pump.

The clips are made of spring steel so they will flex for installation and removal. There is no "trick", you just position the clip so the tips are under the flange of the stud then you push the clip over the stud. It goes on from the side of the stud, not over the end.

Sorry that's the best way I can describe it.
 
Removing the alternator pulley is easy. Pressing it on is another matter. The alternator must be disasembled so you can press agaist the rear of the shaft. Why is the water pump extended?

Hi Doug;

That's what I suspected based upon looking at the pulley and shaft. The Chevys had a nut plus they had that "fan" which you could lock up to get the nut off. I'm just going to install the alternator as is and mess with it sometime in the future. I had this engine built, its a small block bored and stroked to 408. The long pump came with the build.

Hi, Thanks, I got the two down below in place without too much trouble. The one under the dash has been a PITA then there is the one below the master cylinder..... One way or another I'll get them on.
 
Unless it is an aftermarket pump, all SB have the same snout length.

Most likely is after market..like most everything else in the build.. Just playing around with it I can see the difference in length. Basically the extra length is the length of the fan spacer which will not go back in... When I did the Chevy (ZZ383) had the same situation, the new pump was longer than the old, had to mount the alternator on the right side of the engine, to the pump (was left side to the block)..
