howdy once again gentleman . the other day i was going over the Road Runner....checking fluids and what not.,, not that i am anticipating winter already but i wanted to make sure the anti freeze was mixed correctly. so i dunked in the hose for the hydrometer....sucked up some antifreeze, pulled it up and much top my surprise, a bunch of GOOP was clinging to the little hose of the tool.

now...keep in mind , when i got the car there was an ever so small leak in the radiator, so i put about half a can of barrs leak in it. but this kinda looks like motor oil, im not 100% sure tho, i am hoping it is left over rad sealant.....but it surreeeee does look like oil and feels like oil.. please tell me i need new head gaskets and there isnt a crack from an oil passage to a coolant passage in the block or heads . there wasnt much in there....just floating on the top when ya look in the radiator . i have NEVER seen oil in the coolant.....but i have seen coolant in the oil....YES I CHECKED THE OIL AND ITS OK.

any ideas ??:angryfire:

I would guess it's some glop from the radiator. If it had a leak when you bought it, there's no telling what crap the previous owner put in there. The only time I've ever seen oil get into coolant was from a bad head gasket, and there was a lot of oil in there, not just some stuff stuck to the end of a probe. I think cracks in the block tend to run the other way due to fluid densities, and you end up with lots of coolant in the oil pan.

Did you check your oil when it was hot or cold? Coolant will mix in with oil and be invisible when it's hot, but stick out like a sore thumb when the oil is cold.

A warped head and/or blown head gasket will allow the antifreeze to be blown into the area under the intake manifold and from there into the crankcase. As mentioned above a pressure check of the radiator and cooling system should be made immediately.

whewwwwwwwwwwwww.......ill remain optimistic about this. i found it cold and wanted to ask your guyz' thoughts before i ran it. ill run it tonight and check both fluids again and ill have a report for yaz!

oil in the coolant is pretty rare.make sure its not trans fluid comming in from a small crack in your cooler at the bottom of the rad as well.

Bingo that's what I was thinking also or maybe someone put some kind of conditioner/additive in the radiator, they can foam up & leave an oily residue, what color was the slime ??

the slime color was light brown...which is what made me think it was motor oil!

The one time I saw oil getting in the coolant, the first indicator was a puddle that looked like a spilled chocolate milkshake directly under the coolant overflow tank. With the oil under pressure, if there's a way for it to get out, it's going to go out quick. In this case, it filled up the tank to where it couldn't hold anymore, popped the top, and bubbled over. Yeech.

If you just found a glop of it, it's probably not oil because there would be a LOT of it. :)

I HAVE THE PROGNOSIS DOC............. looks like it was just residual gook in the system. i just checked it and all looks like its ok. i filled it up full with water and drove it and let it spill out of the overflow. got rid of the goop that way and didnt have to screw with it gettin the car all dirty. WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO.....all is good in Road Runner land once again! thanx for all the input guyz!

Three cheers for the PURPLE PEOPLE EATER... that's great, easy peasy

Sometimes changing a radiator hose or something like that someone could have used a bucket that wasn't quite as oil free clean as should be to drain water in ive seen this happen, Glad you have it under control, cant be hurtin that Runner any!

when i bought that car in oct 2011, the owner told me that he owned it for 8 months and drove it maybe 200 miles. it has been sitting in his garage for a while before i got ahold of it.

I however......drive it alot...if the sun is out...guaranteed me and the Road Runner are out driving around someplace. Im sure its just some broken free goop thats been residing in the bottom of the rad or block. I am going to do a full flush on it very soon and make sure its all out of there. i keep checking it and green is what im seeing so its all taken care of for now. thanx for all the advice and info....you guys really do ROCK!
