Looking to put a triple gauge under dash in my 67. Most of the ones I have looked at have both a mechanical coolant temp and oil pressure. Does anyone have a pro or con to this set up? Im concerned the oil pressure uses a plastic hose leading to the gauge and im wondering how that holds up. Also the temp gauge uses a capillary tube. Any thoughts or suggestion of a better brand than other. Looking for a chrome housing with a classic looking gauge. Thanks.

Buy the electric gauge set. Costs more but worth it and easier to install.

My mechanical oil pressure gauge failed (internal leak) and leaked onto my console. I replaced it with VDO electric gauges.

Problem solved.

Just my 2-cents but go electric. I have on my last few builds, and you can generally use existing holes/grommets to run wiring. Mechanical gauges usually require larger openings. The plastic line that came on the aftermarket gauge in my road runner, failed....putting oil all over the carpet. Got it cleaned up, but is exactly why I like the good electrical stuff.

Mechanical gauges are fine but I always buy the copper line kit for the oil pressure gauge.

Definitely use an electric temp gauge. Regarding oil pressure, I use a mechanical but like wannadrag said, use a copper capillary tube and toss that plastic POS. I still use my oil pressure dummy light; every time I start my motor I am able to use it to confirm that my oil pressure gauge is functioning. It's great for peace of mind.

x2 This set up has worked for me for the past 34 years.

I'm definitely going to add a gage cluster to under the dash, tach, oil, temp. I'd also like a recommendation of electric.

Any particular brand? haven't had much luck finding any electric gauges.
If your asking about mechanical gauges then I'm going to recommend Autometer/Autogage because the quality is good and they are priced right.

Stewart Warner has electrical gauges. I put a set in the prostock aspen.

My first set of gauges (mechanical oil pressure, electric water temp, electric trans temp) were cheap sunpro's and they worked fine. I replaced them with some auto meters and while there was no change in accuracy, I guess I do prefer having a higher quality gauge - better confidence that they're reading accurately.
