During this generation of cars what color was the factory undercoating?

Thanks

Not all cars came with the black crap.....and I've found a lot of rust hiding under the stuff. Also, the majority of rusted cars rusted from within due to leaking front and rear window and trunk seals. No amount of undercoating will prevent that.

1962 was black. I can knock off a chunk and send you a sample lol

My '65 is Black and who ever did it would put RHINO COAT TO SHAME!!!

Lol. Mine is pretty bad too. It covers everything! Brake lines, bolts , brackets, etc and is probably 3/4" thick in some spots. I had a muffler blow a couple weeks ago and it blew the undercoating off above the muff. Stuff is thick.

There's no MUFF TOO TUFF!!!!

As far as I know, all cars that had undercoating , was done by the dealer. Therefore the variences.........................MO

The 73 Duster I had looked like clear undercoating. Still pretty thick and I could only fine one small rust spot on the entire car.

My 64 on the other hand has black undercoating and finding more and more rust the deeper I dig.

My 66 was like that too. Filled up several 5 gallon buckets of the crap and there's still some under it....

I'm sure the dealer did some of them but basically, it was done at the factory.

The original invoice from my '66 shows fatory underoating & it's black.

oops, sorry for the typos - my keyboard appears to be angry with me!

Worked at the Dodge dealership back then and yes the cars could be ordered with or without. It did state it on the window sticker.Maybe depends on on what state the car came from.My 64 was bought new in Ohio and had the thick black factory undercoat. The kind that when your wrench slips will take all the skin off your knuckles. My 63 is from Arizona and the underneath is as bare as a baby's butt.

My 65 Coronet has it. Rust in the floor boards and rear quarters. When I look up under the drivers side I see rust, so probably need to patch up the cowl if I ever get to redoing it.
