Got my front on jack stands under the front of the frame rails. and tires off. So suspension is hanging. I want to change the upper control arm rubber bump stops which are crushed to half their original height. I put my floor jack under the lower arm and jacked up. Nothing moves and the whole car starts to lift? Am I missing something here? The suspension should travel up and down freely?

If it's the bumper where the blue dot is in the photo then you should be able to remove it with the car on it's wheels. There should be approx 4" between the top of the rubber and the bottom of the UCA. The nut is underneath and is easily accessed too.

Yes he can do that as well. You need to get the nut off BEFORE you move that UCA off the bumper though. Even then sometimes they won't give and you have to split the nut.

Just friction in the bushings IMO, the car usually needs to be driven to get to proper ride height. Jouncing it should get you part way there though, at least enough to get it off the bump stop.
