I'm going with Kicker hot rod black for my coronet. It's a single stage urethane. My question is. Will the have to be sprayed over a primer or can I put it over the existing paint? Like if I sand the car can I shoot this over it. Or would it be better to take the car down to metal then epoxy primer then the urethane?

Paint actually makes a great primer!......That is if the paint is in decent shape and sticking well to the metal underneath. I take it this is for your '68 500? If so, IMO I'd be taking it down to bare metal instead.

Good luck.

Yeah its for my 68 500. I've got some epoxy primer. I guess I will sand it all down. Was trying to avoid that cuz that's A LOT of sanding! I do have some body work I will need to do. I was thinking I could sand the whole car. Spray primer over the body filler. Then shoot the urethane

If the substrate is good, going to bare metal is not necessary.
